The Man With The Small Clipboard Part:III

There was a woman with a large feathered hat, holding a shovel and talking to a man in a bespoke suit who was also holding a shovel. Between the two of them stood another man. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small clipboard. He looked it over for a moment before glancing around and slipping it right back into his pocket.

“Shut the door already, and get it buried.” said the man with the small clipboard, “we’re running late as it is.” The woman reached her shovel into the hole, and pushed the hatch door over. As the hole grew smaller and smaller, the man with the small clipboard in his pocket walked from tree to tree, as if he was reading the bark just like the person that lead me there. By the time he read every tree around the clearing, the hole was filled.

“Good work, kids.” the man with the small clipboard announced as he walked back over to the other two. “Alright than, you know the job.” he said, and without another word they were all off in separate directions. except, the man with the small clipboard in his pocket was headed straight my way.

I realized that he was making eye contact with me, and I stood up to run away. “Good, you’re right on time” he started to say, and his pace quickened. I didn’t know what I was right on time for, but I wasn’t going to wait around to find out. As I started running, I could hear him calling behind me, “Wait! You’re supposed to be the one! We need your help, please!”, but I didn’t stop or look back the whole way home.

I locked the door, shut the blinds, and turned off every light in the house. I laid in my bed for hours thinking about everything I just saw, and what it all meant. There was no making heads or tails from any of it. All I knew was that I was tired.

When I finally fell asleep I dreamt of a lion running down the road, but it was decaying more and more with every step. Chunks of flesh flying thirty feet in the air, and bits of mane flowing to the ground behind it until only the skeleton of a once majestic beast charged down the road. the skeleton made a wide turn, and started to circle me. It ran faster and faster with each lap getting smaller. It was almost at arms length when I woke up.
